Sterile Processing Technician Pathway

Sterile Processing Technicians play a critical role in patient safety. They clean, inspect, sterilize, and prepare surgical instruments used in procedures across our hospitals. 

They work behind the scenes to ensure every instrument is safe, sterile, and ready for patient care. 

Key Tasks

  • Cleaning and disinfecting surgical instruments and medical equipment
  • Inspecting instruments for damage or defects 
  • Assembling and packaging instrument trays 
  • Operating sterilization equipment 
  • Tracking instruments and documenting processes accurately 

Sterile Processing is a fast-paced, hands-on role that requires attention to detail, teamwork, and accountability. 

This is a 7-month structured program that combines online learning and paid clinical training.

Phase 1: Online Learning (4 Months)

  • You will continue working in your current role
  • Approximately 15 hours per week of coursework
  • Live virtual classes + independent study
  • Classes are taught in English 

Phase 2: Job Transfer & Clinical Training
After completing online learning: 

  • You will transfer to a paid, full-time Sterile Processing Technician Trainee role at Kennestone Regional Medical Center
  • Complete Applied Learning week (hands-on training)
  • Complete 100 clinical hours 
  • Sit for the CRCST certification exam
  • Complete approximately 300 additional clinical hours 

You must pass the certification exam to move into a certified role. 

Final Placement 
Once you: 

  • Complete all required clinical hours 
  • Pass the certification exam 

You will transfer into a full-time Certified Sterile Processing Technician role at Kennestone Regional Medical Center.
